5 Ways to Stay Cool (And Social!) This Summer
This just in: skipping the small talk just got WAY more cool… if by cool you mean “shady” or “air-conditioned” or otherwise hot-weather-approved. Just because there’s a heat wave doesn’t mean you have to hole up inside the house. In other words: Break the ice without breaking a sweat.
An activity? An activity where you meet new people, have deep conversations, and make meaningful connections? An activity where you meet new people, have deep conversations, and make meaningful connections indoors, perhaps with a cold drink, on a hot summer day? Sign me up!!
Hit Up Your Local Library
If you’re looking for a place to hang with free AC, try your local library! Not only will you find refuge from the heat, but you also might find community events and activities, book clubs, or a neighbor or two looking to strike up a conversation. If you just want to chill and read, try chatting with a librarian for a recommendation instead of just googling. You won’t regret it!
Movie Theater Marathon
Blockbuster? More like HEAT-buster, am I right? If the sun is at is most oppressive for around eight hours a day and the average movie is two-and-a-half hours long, then you (and some friends!) should be able to enjoy back-to-back features in an air-conditioned theater (plus a meal in-between) with time to spare.
Visit a Museum
Public art is a public good, and so is the relief from the heat that comes with it! If ever there was a good time to see beautiful things indoors, it’s on the hottest day of the year. Check out the calendar before you go and see if there are any talks, activities, or special exhibitions. Not everyone takes advantage of museum activities as a way to get to know people in their community, but not everyone is as smart and social as YOU!
Beach Day
If you can’t beat the heat, join it! Grab your friends, pack the cooler, crank up the tunes, and catch some sun or shade or waves at a beach near you.
