(Test) One Another Screening + Skip the Small Talk at Trident Books: Tuesday, January 28, 3000
Ever watched a movie that made you want to have a long conversation afterward? We’re making a whole night of that.
Join us at Trident Books for a screening of One Another, followed by a Skip the Small Talk event where you’ll get to know the other nice people who showed up!
One Another follows three people navigating the possible end of a close friendship at very different stages of life. A cross-country move, a mental health crisis, and a shift into empty-nesting have each brought up questions about what they need from the people closest to them. Filmed over three years, it’s a documentary about friendship, change, and what it means to care for each other.
Then, we’ll get to meet each other! We’ll pair you up with other guests and have you switch partners every so often (kinda like speed-dating, but without the speed and without the dating).
We’ll have a fabulous host leading the whole shebang, and we’ll give you question cards to guide conversation just a few notches deeper than you’d usually go so you don’t accidentally talk about what you do for work six times in a row.
No film-analysis skills required, and there will absolutely not be a quiz. You don’t need to have anything insightful prepared, either. We’ll give you plenty to talk about, and you can share as much or as little as you’d like. If you don’t vibe with a question for any reason, you can always pick another one!
Feel free to come alone (most people do—we promise we won’t make it weird for you) or bring a friend. We’d love to have you join us for a movie and some conversations with people you might otherwise have walked right past in the bookstore.

The plan for the evening
6:30 p.m.: A quick welcome, followed by the screening of One Another (95 minutes).
8:10 p.m.: A 10-minute bathroom/stretch break.
8:20 p.m.: A shorter version of Skip the Small Talk, with about an hour of guided conversations.
9:30 p.m.: We’ll wrap up so you can head home!
Please arrive by 6:15 so you can get settled before the movie starts.

AGE RANGE | All Ages: While many folks who attend our events are in their 20s and 30s, all guests of all ages will be enthusiastically welcome!
FOOD/DRINKS | The entire Trident menu of food and alcoholic as well as nonalcoholic drinks will be available for purchase, with many allergy-friendly options for food and drinks.
PARKING / PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION | Limited parking lot spots and street parking may be available nearby, but public transportation is recommended.

We tend to sell out in advance in most of our cities, and it bums us out when we have to turn away people at the door, so if you’re interested, PLEASE grab a ticket as soon as you find a date that works for you!
